Two premeeting courses taking place on Friday, April 9, ahead of the 2021 State-of-the-Art Clinical Symposium (SOTA) will focus heavily on what’s new in practice, including mastering evaluation and management (E/M) changes for 2021 and patient access to treatments in rheumatology.
Mastering 2021 E/M Changes & Beyond
The traditional SOTA premeeting coding course has been tailored to help attendees master substantial revisions to the E/M guidelines for new and established office/outpatient services in 2021. The revisions are intended to reduce physician workload and support patient care. Although there are still key elements that must be documented to avoid audits and non-payment, some elements will not be necessary for every level of service, since most of the focus will be on the careful documentation of medical decision making and time.
ACR staff and coding experts Antanya Chung, CPC, CPC-I, CCP, CRHC, and Melesia Tillman, CPC, CPC-I, CHA, CRHC, will provide guidance on documenting a medically appropriate history and/or physical exam, as well as code selection on time or medical decision making, whichever is more financially advantageous. E/M services are at the heart of rheumatology practices’ revenue, and with the final CPT and CMS changes, practices will need to understand the revisions to the current E/M policies and documentation guidelines for 2021 and beyond.
Mastering 2021 E/M Changes and Beyond will take place on Friday, April 9, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. CDT.
Access in Rheumatology
Patient access to treatment continues to be a priority for the ACR and its advocacy efforts. This first-of-its-kind premeeting course will bring together the perspectives of ACR/ARP members, partner rheumatology organizations, payer representatives and other subject-matter experts for meaningful conversations on major coverage and payment issues impacting access to rheumatology. Specific topics will include utilization management strategies such as prior authorization and step therapy, as well as physician-administered treatments and copay accumulators.
Access in Rheumatology will take place on Friday, April 9, from 2 – 5:20 p.m. CDT.
