In response to the need for education to help a busy practicing rheumatologist tackle some of the business tasks associated with practice, the 2010 Annual Meeting Planning Committee has created a new track: the Business of Rheumatology. This track was created to help the busy private practitioner identify sessions that address pertinent and timely business issues, such as coding, reimbursement, the impact of healthcare reform, EHRs, and other business-related issues. Specific Business of Rheumatology offerings for this year’s meeting include:
- Recovery Audit Contractor Versus Comprehensive Error Rate Testing Audits—Do You Know the Difference?
- Committee on Rheumatologic Care (CORC): Ideal Rheumatology Practice
- ICD-10 Preparation: Developing a Blueprint for Implementation
- CORC Forum: Healthcare Reform—Where Are We Heading?
- Transforming Rheumatologic Care with the EHR
- Career Opportunities in Rheumatology
- The Changing Face of the Rheumatology Workforce—Gender Issues in the Workplace
- Contract Negotiations for Physicians
In addition to being the primary educational activity of the ACR, the annual meeting is considered the major scientific interchange in the global rheumatology community. While the Business of Rheumatology track is primarily relevant to physicians practicing in the U.S., the meeting has been planned to accommodate a variety of needs, and this track is one example of this commitment. “The ACR is truly interested and responsive to the annual meeting attendees’ needs and desires,” says Thomas Olenginski, MD, ACR fellow member.
