The Rheumatology Image Bank is an online library that features clinical, pathologic, and radiologic images of major adult and pediatric rheumatic diseases and conditions. Launched in late October, the Rheumatology Image Bank is a centralized resource for clinicians, researchers, and health professionals that provides assistance in selfstudy or the education of others.
The Rheumatology Image Bank was assembled by the ACR’s Audiovisual Aids Subcommittee, led by Alan Baer, MD. “The ACR Clinical Slide Collection has long been recognized as a premier resource for rheumatology education,” says Dr. Baer. “We are very excited about the creation of an online image bank, since this will allow universal access to this teaching tool. We are indebted to all those individuals who contributed superior images to the collection over the years, including those who submitted images for the 2009 ACR Slide Competition.”
This image collection began in 1935 with a modest number of pathology images and has expanded to include more than 1,500 images. Since the ACR last published its slide collection in 2004, it has received over 300 additional viable images. The online library now makes every image readily accessible. In the future, the image bank will also include video images, thereby expanding its educational versatility.
The Rheumatology Image Bank allows anyone to access and view the images, and—as a new member benefit— ACR members receive complimentary downloads. To learn more about the Rheumatology Image Bank, visit http://images.rheumatology.org.
