First described in 1888, polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a chronic inflammatory condition that almost exclusively affects individuals older than 50. A new generation of intrepid researchers and clinicians is learning more and more about all aspects of PMR. Much of the old dogma is being thrown out and replaced with a more nuanced understanding of what it means to carry the diagnosis.
