Dr. Engleman is proud of the fact that one of the first preceptees of the preceptorship, Elizabeth Perkins, MD, has qualified for next year’s program at UCSF. “Ours is a highly competitive program,” he says. “She must be pretty darn good. Believe me, it happened entirely independent of my support of the preceptorship, so it’s a very striking and a very nice coincidence!”
Since its inception, the Ephraim P. Engleman Resident Research Preceptorship has funded eight preceptorships. Three awardees are either practicing or completing their rheumatology fellowships— one at the National Institutes of Health—with the remainder awardees completing their residencies.
