VIVIO, a specialty pharmacy benefit manager, is contracting with self-funded employer health plans to reduce spending on specialty drugs. The ACR has received numerous complaints about VIVIO policies that threaten patient access and disrupt practice workflow, including non-medical switching, tapering patients off biologics, specialty pharmacy acquisition mandates and site-of-service restrictions.
The ACR sent a letter to VIVIO expressing opposition to these policies and highlighting the negative impact they have on patients and practices. Despite a follow-up discussion with VIVIO leadership, the ACR remains deeply concerned that its policies undermine providers’ clinical decision making and place patients’ health and safety at risk. The ACR is working to raise awareness about this issue and will continue advocating against policies that prioritize cost over patients’ health and quality of life.
