We are honored to announce that The Rheumatologist has received two Awards of Excellence from APEX 2024 for content published in calendar year 2023: one for the October issue (category: Magazines, Journals & Tabloids) and one for the editorial supplement on rheumatoid arthritis (category: Print Media—Special Purpose) that accompanied the issue.
In his Rheuminations™ on the redesign unveiled in the October issue, Physician Editor Bharat Kumar, MD, MME, FACP, FAAAAI, RhMSUS, said, “If you’ve been a long-time reader of The Rheumatologist, you may have noticed that things look just a little different in this issue. The logo has changed, the font appears distinct, and the bylines are, for lack of a better term, aligned differently. If you’re looking at this online, the menus have changed somewhat, and the background looks less like it was made in the 1990s.” And thus, he dove into a discussion of “Design Thinking & the Rheumatologist.”
The October issue also contained articles on an ACR member’s medical mission to Ukraine, the (then) new ACR guideline on glucocorticoid-induced ostoporosis, the role of nurse practitioners in the comprehensive care of patients with rheumatic disease, the importance of increasing diversity in clinical trials, health disparities among rural and Indigenous people, the importance and incidence of screening for mental health concerns among patients with psoriatic arthritis, as well as a case report on Hadju-Cheney syndrome and more. Ligon, MD, MHS, kicked off our supplement on RA, saying, “As satisfying as first identifying rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for a patient can be, the art of medicine that keeps clinical medicine interesting begins with the visit’s subsequent launch into any one of a thousand possible directions. This special supplement to The Rheumatologist includes articles that provide much needed content to move patient conversations one step further away from exercises in active listening and toward true information exchange.”
