Q: Where do you see rheumatology 10 years from now?
A: There’s a lot of interest in rheumatology and in medicine in general [in] using various strategies to collect and integrate lots of data on our patients so we can better understand what’s going on with them. This is highlighted by the recent [National Institutes of Health Accelerating Medicines Partnership], for example, that includes initiatives in rheumatology and other disciplines, which in all cases will involve the collection of tremendous amounts of raw data. I do think the challenge for us in the next 10 years is to figure out how to use these data in an integrative fashion to diagnose, understand and treat rheumatic diseases.
