In previous studies, they showed that “the connectivity between the Default Mode Network and the insula correlates so well with the level of pain a patient feels that “it’s coming close to being a biomarker,” said Dr. Harris’s coauthor and University of Michigan colleague, Daniel J. Clauw, MD, referring to a different study by this group.2
