“However, the present study showed the opposite,” he said. “HCV eradication is associated with an increased control of vasculitic manifestations throughout a long time period, without life-threatening relapses.”
“This finding indicates that at least mild forms of HCV-related cryoglobulinemic vasculitis should be treated with antiviral drugs only,” said Dr. Ostojic, who was not involved in the new research. “In order to avoid worsening of the underlying HCV infection, immunosuppressive agents should be considered only in severe and refractory cryoglobulinemic vasculitis.”
