Contact your legislators and ask if they would have 10–15 minutes to meet with you. Allow for four to six weeks advance notice when possible. Explain who you are and what issue you would like to discuss. You can ask if they would be willing to meet at your office so you can show them some of the issues that are important to you. You may receive a quicker response if you provide a phone number should they have any questions.
The key to being an efficient and effective advocate is to start speaking up. Remember that you have a right to speak up, and speaking up does not require a real commitment to make a big impact. If you are interested in finding opportunities to speak up, email ACR Sr. Manager of State Affairs Hayley McCloud at [email protected].
