Each year, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) recognizes outstanding achievements by a promising young scientist in biomedical research by bestowing the Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences. First presented in 2013, this $100,000 award is made possible by a gift from philanthropist Ann Lurie.
Nominations for the 2021 Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences are now open. The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, 5 p.m. ET.
Any member of an accredited educational and/or scientific institution can nominate a biomedical investigator for this prize. There is no limit on the number of nominations submitted by an individual or institution. All nominations must be submitted online, and the awardee will be selected by a jury of six distinguished biomedical researchers. The prize will be presented by the FNIH at its 2021 award ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Last year’s awardee was Aviv Regev, PhD, professor of biology at MIT, Core Member, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and an investigator at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Regev laid the groundwork for the field of single-cell genomics and spearheaded leading-edge technologies that enable a sharper perspective on human cells and applied them to revolutionize understanding of biology and disease.
