Innovative Therapies in Autoimmune Diseases
The Innovative Therapies in Autoimmune Diseases Conference will be held at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Va. March 2–4, 2007. The conference brings together researchers, Food and Drug Administration representatives, and pharmaceutical representatives in a unique forum to discuss new therapies in rheumatology.
2007 Winter Rheumatology Symposium
Each January, rheumatologists from across the country gather in Snowmass, Colo., for a 30-year-old tradition of learning, networking, and skiing at the Winter Rheumatology Symposium. This year attendees can go to more than 20 sessions on topics including treatment dilemmas in systemic vasculitis, eicosinoids, targeting tumor necrosis factor, systemic sclerosis-like diseases, and new RA treatments.
Better Physicians—One Student at a Time
For Maribeth Morral, a third-year medical student at Penn State College of Medicine in State College, Pa., and ACR Research and Education Foundation (REF) Preceptorship winner, her first exposure to rheumatology was the product of a chance encounter. In the first year of medical school at Penn State, students are assigned to track a chronically ill patient throughout the year as a learning experience. Morral’s patient happened to be an 11-year-old girl diagnosed with juvenile RA.
Call for USBJD Young Investigators Applicants
The Research Committee of the United States Bone and Joint Decade (USBJD) has launched a series of workshops to provide early-career clinical investigators with an opportunity to work with experienced researchers in rheumatology, and to assist them in securing funding and learning other survival skills required for pursuing an academic career.
