ARHP Members Earn Leadership Position, Award

Kamala Nola, PharmD, MS, was inducted as the 2011-2012 president-elect of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association; Danuta Bujak, PhD, FNP, an ARHP member, was honored as the recipient of the 2011 Yale School of Nursing Distinguished Alumna Award.

ACR Volunteers Attend Leadership Development Conference

Last month, volunteers from the ACR, ARHP, and REF met in Atlanta for the Annual Leadership Development Conference. This year’s conference focused on media relations and social media in a healthcare environment. The goal of this year’s conference was to educate the volunteers on how to successfully use the different types of media outreach. The topics were timely, what with the launch of the ACR’s first public relations campaign, Simple Tasks, and a successful social media session held at the 2011 ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting.

Welcome New ACR and ARHP Leaders

The ACR is pleased to continue its welcome of the newest members of the ACR board of directors and ARHP executive committee. These new members were confirmed last November during the ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting in Chicago. In the December 2011 “From the College,” we introduced you to several new members (“Welcome New ACR and ARHP Leaders,”). In this issue, you will meet the rest of the new members joining the leadership ranks and learn what they want to gain from their experience as new board and executive committee members.

A Practice Manager’s Perspective on ARHP Membership

At the age of 10, Chad E. Fragle was hospitalized for Legg-Perthes disease at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. What was a very difficult time for him and his family led to a bright and hopeful future. With the support of his family, specifically from his father, who helped start a golf tournament fundraiser to fight the disease still in existence today, Fragle was given access to administrative leaders within the hospital.

Back Pain and the Role of the Physical Therapist

Back pain is a common occurrence, so much so that most adults will have at least one episode of back pain at some point in their lives. Fortunately, most of these episodes last only a few days and resolve if patients maintain normal activity levels, avoid the detrimental effects of too much bed rest, use over-the-counter pain relievers with caution, and seek the attention of a health professional if the pain or other symptoms persist or worsen over time.
